ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBJECTIVES:

The Sports Information/Marketing Director is equally responsible for media relations and communications and data analysis within the Athletics department. He/she will work closely with the College's Advancement Department to promote the mission, news and accomplishments of Lackawanna College's various athletic teams. He/she will assist in managing the Athletics Department web page and social medial platforms. He/she will also collect and analyze data necessary to assess departmental effectiveness, especially as related to the Institutional Strategic Plan.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provides oversight and collaborates with the College Advancement department, in the preparation of press releases and the arrangement of media coverage for athletic events, and ensure the appropriate media is informed of the results of all athletic events.
  2. Directs marketing, social media and branding of the Athletics department. Facilitates the development and distribution of information related to all teams, coaches and student-athletes across multiple platforms and social media outlets. 
  3. Works with College Advancement team to develop and execute a robust public relations and marketing plan, expanding coverage to new markets and fostering improved relationships with local, regional and national news media.
  1. Manages all communications and media relations for assigned sports and assist with the supervision of the department's communication efforts for all intercollegiate programs; assist in the publicity efforts to enhance the overall image of the College.
  1. Manages the athletic department website. Maintains website and reviews data entered by coaching staff to ensure current and accurate information is posted.
  2. Responsible for coordinating traditional game day sports information operations which include marking materials, producing pre and post-game multi-media, action photography, logging game statistics and reporting results to the Conference, NJCAA and various media outlets.
  3. Coordinates with the College Advancement team to field and direct responses to interview requests from local and national media.
  4. Manages the stats for all athletics.
  5. Tracks and collects information on where College graduates are going.
  6. Organizes and coordinates meetings and banquets as well as the fall Homecoming event.
  7. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 KEY COMPETENCIES:

  1. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  2. Excellent interpersonal skills; must be articulate, enthusiastic and creative.
  1. Ability to promote the image of Lackawanna College effectively and proactively to the media and the community.
  2. Internet and viral marketing knowledge and experience, preferably in the field of athletics and/or higher education.
  3. Knowledge and experience with graphic design, photography and printing and related software.
  1. The capability to work in a collaborative office environment.
  2. Demonstrated ability of work collaboratively with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and disciplines.
  3. Familiarity working with Jenzabar or other data management system preferred.
  4. Ability to travel and work flexible hours, to include evenings and weekends.

 EDUCATION:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree, preferably in Communications, Marketing, Media Arts, Sports Information or relevant field. 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Prior experience in general marketing, media and/or public relations.
  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative research methodology.
  • Experience in the field of institutional research and assessment preferred.
