WVU places fraternity on interim suspension due to hazing complaint

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia University has notified the Phi Sigma Phi fraternity of an immediate interim suspension after an allegation of hazing.

The Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities received the complaint from the Center for Fraternal Values and Leadership.

No details about the complaint have been released, but the Student Code of Conduct defines hazing as any act that "endangers or adversely affects the mental or physical health or safety of another person."

The fraternity will remain on interim suspension until the investigation into the matter is complete.

During interim suspension, Phi Sigma Phi fraternity and Epsilon Chi chapter members are prohibited from participating in, attending, or organizing social functions as a chapter, or hosting or co-hosting social activities at another location.

All recruitment and new member class programs are also suspended immediately.

Phi Sigma Phi has five days to appeal the suspension.
